What’s that Weave?

The number of known chain maille patterns is impressive; there are more than 1,000 documented weaves. Most modify basic patterns, but each new weave is distinct.

Today's weavers are still creating new patterns, from simple chains to intricate, fabric-like sheets.

The basic weaves encompass six different categories; European, Japanese, Persian, Spiral, Captive, and Hybrid. A weave is based off of the connection style and ring interaction, although in some cases a weave may fall into more than one family and be labeled a hybrid.
